Illini Bluffs’ Alvey named ‘Superintendent of Distinction’
SPRINGFIELD—Dr. Roger Alvey, superintendent of Illini Bluffs CUSD #327, has been named the 2019 Superintendent of Distinction by his colleagues in the Central Illinois Valley Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA).
Alvey was honored at an awards luncheon May 9 in Springfield. State Superintendent Dr. Carmen Ayala was the featured speaker, where 21 IASA regional Superintendents of Distinction were recognized.
“I am surprised, humbled and privileged to work with outstanding individuals from the Central Illinois Valley Region,” said Alvey, who has been an educator for 26 years, including the last five as Superintendent of Illini Bluffs CUSD #327. “There are many more deserving superintendents than I. They are to be recognized for what they do for kids each and every day. The credit also truly goes to the students, teachers, staff, administration and school board of Illini Bluffs CUSD #327. We have a school community that supports a culture for students to be successful.”
Those nominating Alvey noted a number of successes during his tenure including:
Improved student achievement and financial stability.
Assisted in leading Peoria County through the passage of a 1 percent county-wide sales tax increase.
Planned and organized a 1:1 technology program for grades K-12.
Implemented a multi-year, multi-million dollar facilities master plan to upgrade infrastructure throughout the district.
Planned and organized the 21st Century Learning Initiative and Future Ready process.
Organized, planned and conducted a district wide school safety training, including Stop the Bleed training, as well as procured by donation more than 100 emergency kits to be used in classrooms, buses and in common areas.
“Each Superintendent of Distinction was nominated by peers in their regions based on their commitment, dedication and leadership,” said IASA Executive Director Dr. Brent Clark. “These extraordinary individuals truly provide exceptional leadership that elevates the success of students in their districts and are difference makers in their communities.”
The fifth annual luncheon was again sponsored by Horace Mann, one of the nation’s largest insurers focusing on the needs of educators.
“We are proud to recognize these Superintendents of Distinction who are creative, dedicated, inspiring, and consistently create strong learning environments in their districts,” said Marita Zuraitis, Horace Mann President and Chief Executive Officer.
Alvey and his wife, Stephanie, have four children that attend Illini Bluffs Schools.
The Central Illinois Valley Region is comprised of Peoria, Woodford, Mason and Tazewell counties.
